The Cost of Being Indispensable

When one person becomes the backup plan, you don't really have a backup plan.

For schools, healthcare organizations, nonprofits, libraries, and other workplaces where a few reliable people keep holding more than anyone realizes.

They remember what nobody documented. Cover when someone is out. Catch what would otherwise fall through.

Their reliability matters. The risk begins when the work starts depending on their extra effort.

And the better someone gets at covering the gap, the easier it is to miss the gap.

The Cost of Being Indispensable helps audiences recognize that hidden dependence before absence, turnover, or exhaustion exposes it.

What your audience leaves with

They leave better able to spot when extra effort is masking a structural gap—and with one question to take back to work:

What have we gotten used to one person taking care of?

That question can surface unclear ownership, thin backup, undocumented knowledge, or missing support.

WORKSHOP

From Indispensable to Supported

Build stronger backup, clearer ownership, and shared support

90 minutes to full day | In person or virtual

We look at where work, knowledge, or responsibility has become concentrated in one person—and what becomes vulnerable when that person is unavailable.

Why Hanna?

Before becoming a coach and speaker, I worked in economics, legislative analysis, activism, and nonprofit communications.

That background taught me to ask not only whether the work gets done, but who is absorbing the cost of getting it done.

I'm a National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach and Master Neurotransformational Coach, with speaking and facilitation experience at Boulder Public Library, Broomfield Library, Westminster Public Library at Front Range Community College, and Citizens’ Climate Lobby Boulder.

All programs are educational, not therapy.
