An organizational workshop for schools, healthcare teams, libraries, nonprofits, associations, and mission-driven workplaces

From Indispensable to Supported

See where your team depends too heavily on the same people—and decide what to change first.

Most workplaces have someone who knows the thing nobody wrote down.

They know who to call. They remember what happened last time. When something falls through, they catch it.

That can work surprisingly well. Until that person is out sick, leaves, or simply has too much on her plate.

When one person becomes the backup plan, you don’t really have a backup plan.

From Indispensable to Supported gives your team a chance to look at those dependencies while there is still time to do something about them.

90 minutes to full day | In person or virtual

What we look at

We start with the work as it is actually happening.

Who keeps getting called when something goes wrong?

What only one person knows how to do?

Where has “she usually handles that” quietly become the system?

And what happens when she can’t?

One question often brings the pattern into focus:

What have we gotten used to one person taking care of?

From there, we look at what might need a clearer owner, a backup, better documentation, shared responsibility, or more support.

People step in because the work matters. Over time, the organization can start relying on that extra effort.

Both can be true.

Personal sharing is optional. We stay with the work: how it is assigned, remembered, covered, and handed off.

What your team should leave with

Not a binder full of action items.

A clearer picture of where the team is vulnerable, one or two places that need attention, and one or two realistic changes to try.

That might mean naming a backup, writing something down, or clarifying who owns a task.

The point is to know where to start.

Choose the amount of time that fits

From there, we look at what might

90 minutes — Recognize the pattern and choose one focused change.

Two hours — Look more closely at where knowledge and responsibility are concentrated.

Half day or full day — Go further into ownership, documentation, backup, communication, and follow-through.

The workshop can also follow The Cost of Being Indispensable keynote.

Tell me what you’re seeing

If some of this sounds familiar, tell me what is happening on your team. I’ll tell you whether this workshop fits and what format I’d recommend.

A clear written proposal follows the planning conversation.
